»From the moment i wound my arms around Nate's neck i felt him tense underneath me. Now this could have meant a great assortment of things, both good and bad. Either way i couldn't help but slightly regret my decision to gently strangle the boy for the shortest of moments. But having recieved no other apparent physical reaction besides him turning almost to stone at my touch i continued with my devious practical drowning joke, after all, it was him who had pointed out the 'fact' that i was a hopeless drowner. I smiled cheekily at his plea for help as he disappeared under the surface, i moved backwards in the water away from my victim but i felt his hands come in contact with my waist again. Obviously i hadn't been quite quick enough in my attempt to avoid possible retaliation.
»I stopped treading water when he span me in a circle, so as to avoid kicking the boy. When he emerged from the water he didn't release his gentle grip on my waist, instead he kept his hands where they were, softly pushing me backwards to lean against his horse. I held on to his arms just below the elbows for extra balance. Rye's coat tickled my back slightly and i giggled at the feeling. I bit my lip softly when Nate rested his hands on either side of my head, noticing the strange colouring of his eyes for the third time today and dropped my hands from his arms back into the water. Well i'll let you decide my punishment kiddo. How does that sound?
»Rather suddenly i became aware of a shift in the current mood, something about his body language had changed. I watched him intently, aware of how close we were for the second time in mere minutes. Either this was intentional or there was some sort of hidden chemistry between us, but that couldn't be right, i knew basically nothing about this boy. Heck, i didn't even know if he actually attended arrowfield, or if he had just come to the beach for a ride on his horse and lived nowhere near the school. Although in most normal cases i'd probably be very tense and anxious in this kind of situation i felt oddly relaxed, despite the gut-wrenching feeling of the butterflies that were sending my stomach into a series of backflips, almost overwhelming my ability to determine time or place. My heart skipped an incandesent beat when he closed the gap between us to a distance so small i could feel the heat radiating from his face. The million thoughts that had been racing through my head only moments before vanished as the look in his eyes put my racing pulse at ease, and i felt strangely calm once more. A sense of acceptance washed over me, but just as it did i noticed yet another change in body language and he backed away, arms dropping from either side of my head.
»His features were tainted with an expression of confusion, although i was sure it couldn't have even come close to matching my own confused frown. Although iwas relatively curious for some sort of explanation, it was clear i wasn't about to get one. Maybe i'd just read the situation wrong, me being such an air head and all. I felt slightly light headed, and i blushed softly with mild embarassment. i turned away in an attempt to cover it up, letting my wet, long hair slide over my cheeks while i feined interest in the ocean floor. I was aware that this situation had become quite awkward, unfortunately. I lifted my hands out of the water, smiling weakly at the wrinkles that covered my fingers, and turned them around to show Nate. Too late!
»Not a moment later he hoisted me up onto Rye's back again, although apparently he had trouble determining the front of his horse from the back. I gave him a quizzicle look, which he seemed to pretend not to see by jumping on behind me facing the right direction. That's okay, first class passengers ride backwards. But it's still your job to make sure there won't be any crash landings! I felt increadibly disorientated facing the wrong direction. And it took me a few minutes to adjust to the backwards rhythm of a cantering horse before i relaxed my arms which were linked in Nate's. Okay, weird as it may sound, this was rather enjoyable. In a weird and confusing kind of way. I was careful not to squeeze my legs around Rye's flanks, aware that in most cases that was a pretty sensative area, so i relied mainly on Nate's arms for help with this backwards balance, and leaning into his back.
»Once we'd come to a halt and had our feet planted firmly on the ground again i watched for a few minutes as Rye wandered up the beach, curious as to where the horse was going. Nate didn't seem to mind that his horse was heading off to his own accords. It seemed like he was heading in the direction of the arrowfield stable. But i could have been easily mistaken. I then turned my attention to my clothes, sitting exactly where i had left them before our swim. I wouldn't put them back on yet, they'd just get soaked within a few minutes. From here on out it looked like my only options were to hang around the beach for half an hour or so or just to make my way back to campus looking like a drowned rat. Unless of course Nate was planning on hanging around for a little while longer. But judging by the recent turn of events i didn't think that would be the case. Poor Rye looked absolutely exhausted. I turned to Nate then, crossing my arms and plonking down on the warm sand that instantly stuck to my legs. Looks like someone's ready for a nice warm dinner and some hay. Random question, are you boarding at Arrowfield? i said, indication in Rye's general direction with a content grin on my face.

Nate felt a twinge of regret for putting that confused squint on Winter's face. He understood that she would have kissed him back, and it made his job all the harder. He wanted a friendship with a girl, for the first time in a long time, and he wouldnt pass this up. He actually alienated a lot of people with his behaviour. A flirt can only have friends for a short amount of time because eventually people begin to get pissed at you-the girls you've left, the boyfriends of the girls you've made out with, the guys who want to date the girls you hook up with but never had a shot. It was a list that stretched for miles. Any acquantances that Nate retained were purely superficial and when he realized that, it sort of hurt. I mean, when you wake up in the morning and notice theres no one you can text to hang out with or call up to talk to or go riding with, its a bit of a downer. The only good thing in his life was Rye, and the reason they were so close was because of his lack of other friends and activities. He wanted to stroke her cheek where the crimson blush blossomed under her skin, heating her face to an adorable shade of pink. He refrained, and lightened the mood.
He was glad she didnt fight him on riding backwards because first of all, he certainly enjoyed the feel of her back pressing up against his own, skin against skin in the heat of the day, and also because it reiterated how fun she was and how easy going she could be. He heard no indignant screams or whimpers of fear from this girl, Winter the ice queen. Not ice queen in a bad way, but rather ice queen as in she seemed like a strong person, who could withstand trials of time, things she shouldnt have to withstand but could, if the need arose. A protective feeling shot through him, startling him for a moment-it made him feel something like a guard dog, and he didnt want to be a clingy person. Those were the worst-the clingers. Annoying, hard to slip free from, and they always cried, and that made him feel like shit. He didnt like hurting girls, he was just who he was. And that sounded awful, but it was the truth. When you're someone for so long, its hard to change your ways, even if you want to. Humans, being habitual creatures, are predictable, and stupid, and Nate was no exception.
He was fairly certain she was enjoying herself as well, but he checked her face to make sure she was smiling when he gently helped her from the horse. She appeared to not have suffered any life-scarring phobias from the gallop, so he was quite satisfied with himself. He waited, thinking she was going to go pick up her clothes and come walk with him back to the school but she plopped herself into the sand with a bit of finality, so he decided to join her. Sinking into the shifting sand, he cringed when he felt it cling to his wet skin, sure that he would have to run into the ocean to clean it off when they had finished talking; it was one of his pet peeves to have wet sand on his ass, as it were. Oh yes, I could go for some hay right now, for sure.Rye continued to make his way to the school, and Nate let him go, sure that someone at the school would recognize him and let him into his stall-he was a popular guy, mostly because he liked to get out and lay in the arena, causing havoc and chaos and making friends with people. Nate didnt think he needed a bath, since he would be in turnout anyway. Shifting a little uncomfortably he glanced up at her question and smiled, realizing they had never really affirmed that they both went to Arrowfield, he had just assumed.
Oh, yeah I board him there. I go to school at Arrowfield-He stopped, thinking it best to revise that sentence before she jumped to any hasty conclusions about him. Im sorry, Im enrolled at Arrowfield. I dont actually go to most of my classes. He chuckled, very glad that he had cleared that up. He didnt want her thinking that he was some kind of nerd or something. Because sometmes he gave off a very nerdy vibe, and it couldnt be helped. How bout you? I assume you go there, since you mentioned it but of course you could be a hobo, not that I have anything against hobos, I would just appreciate knowing your condition so I can buy you soup on Friday afternoons. He smiled politely, aware that if she was in fact a hobo, (it was a possibility, dont smirk at his suppositions) she might get quite angry at such a callous suggestion and end up slapping him with a fish or something. Not that she had a fish on hand...it was just the first thing that came to mind.
He laid back in the sand, well aware that it would stick to his back completly and annoy the fuck out of him when he stood up, especially since it would get in his hair as well. But hey, the water was just in reach, and he didnt think the ocean would dry up soon. And if it did, they were fucked anyway, so sand on his back would be the least of his problems. Putting his hands behind his head he looked over to Winter. I dont know about you, but I am exhausted. And honestly, tomorrow, Im not going to be able to stand up until noon. He chuckled, painfully aware that that was the truth. He had been riding all morning, took a lunch break, came back, took a skittles break, and then rode and met Winter. He was tuckered out and his spry pony was as well, which meant he was going to be dead. And it was only like five o clock, which was ridiculous. But it was the price to be paid, and if that was the only price it was gladly paid. He grunted, flexing his stomach muscles and cringing from the effort. Crap. Already sore. Nate sighed.

»Although i was perfectly capable of making a relatively decent dismount by myself, even from the wrong end of the horse, i allowed Nate help me to the ground, resting my hands on his shoulders to right myself as he settled me on the ground. He watched me for a second, probably checking to make sure i was still able to stand up straight on my own, which i was. I saw a short wave of surprise cross his expression as i planted myself on the warm sand, he joined me a moment later. I raised an eye brow at him expectantly, i was certain he'd be itching to get home, or to wherever it was he was meant to be going. Nevertheless, i smiled happily at his company and leaned back on my elbows, exposing my bare neck and chest the warm sun rays. My skin itched a little from the salt and sand, causing me to shiver and wriggle on the spot like a hyperactive toddler who was at that frisky stage in their lives where they were completely incapable of sitting still for long periods of time.
»I didn't look at Nate when he answered me, just continued to enjoy the sun and tried to ignore the prickling itches on my arms and legs. I waited a few minutes, considering what he'd said. yeah, i go there too.. Hobo. i said quietly, lost in thought. I kneaded the sand with my toes, an old habit from my childhood days, before i leaned forward quickly and turned to face the boy, crossing my legs in front of me. Wait, we both go to Arrowfield? What Dorm are you in? i was feeling excited now. I knew the possibility that he would be in my dorm was unlikely, but it would be good fun if he was. If, that was, i'd be able to get a word in with him at all past Pandroa's constant chatter. I smiled at the thought of the girl, remembering the first time we'd met in the dorm. That had been such a funny day. Come to think of it. I hadn't seen Pandora for a few days. Or Tye for that matter, our other Dorm-Mate.
»When he leaned back my eyes followed his movement, admiring his toned stomach muscles. I quickly turned away, staring out at the ocean in an attempt to conceal the guilty grin on my face. Well now, who could blame me? Not everyone enjoyed getting caught perving on boys on beaches, although secretly everyone did it. I picked up a shell from the sand, twisting it in my hands absently. I wasn't sure what he'd meant in saying that he was exhausted. Was he hinting that he was ready to head off? In which case i felt like a pain for holding him there for so long. Nah uh. I'm not tired at all! I jumped on him then, digging my hands under the bottom of his rib cage, but only so hard as to make it tickle, not hurt. Then i began rolling down the beach like a rolling pin, laughing like an idiot. I only stopped when i was several meters away from him, sitting up on my knees and grinning with excitement.
»I was vaguely aware that i was now completely covered in the dry itchy sand, from top to bottom. Even my cheeks bore large circles of the stuff, so i made my way silently to the wetter sand that the waves were constantly lapping over and snagged a handful of it. It tried to squeeze and ooze through my fingers, eager to rejoin the shore, i switched it back and forth between my hands until it was in a large, sloppy ball then wandered back up the beach to roll it in the dry sand. I tottered back over to Nate, still covered in sand and looked from him, to the sand ball, back to him again, a mysterious look on my face. Hey Nate.. Have you ever eaten Mud-pie before?

Its hard to be a gentleman, a flirt, and a guy all at the same time. Especially when she tilted her head back like that. Truly, it wasnt fair. The muscles of her neck stretched gracefully as she turned her face to the sunshine and he really had to bite his lip and turn away. When he looked back, it was a complete transformation. Now she looked like a dog with fleas or something, wriggling around in the sand, trying to get the unseen itch. He had the same unpleasant sensation of itchy salt in contact with skin but to a lesser degree, he would think. Either he didnt feel it as much or she was making quite the fuss. They were both quite probable situations. And then she stopped and was quiet. She had severe mood swings and was terribly uninhibited. He smiled to himself, improbable scenarios chasing through his brain.
Suddenly what he had said seemed to register in her brain, and she inquired about his dorm. There we go, he thought, some radiowaves have crossed the moniter. (ooc: I just applied for a dorm-oops-but Im fairly sure it will be two or four, since one and three are full, so Ill guess :0 ) Im in Dorm 2-Im pretty sure you're not in it, but having said that, I could be less observant than I thought I was and its possible that you are in Dorm 2 as well. He smiled, proud of his babbling skills. But he was pretty sure she wasnt in Dorm 2. He spent his time there or with Rye, and occasionally his classes, so he was fairly certain he would have seen her at one point or another, and he would have most definetly remembered her. Nate definetly saw her eyes flicker down towards his buff abs when he flexed and winced, and though his mouth knew better than to smile and give the game away, his brain was exploding with lightbulbs and laughter. It was the classic look-and-look-away, he'd seen it many times. And then she did something totally unexpected.
She launched herself on top of him, tickling him under his ribs. Now, Nate was a sensible guy, and only mildly ticklish, but when she was sitting on top of him with her hands all over him, his heart did nearly stop. What? You cant blame the guy. Its a normal response, even if he didnt want it to be quite so strong. Heart attacks were not first on his list of things to do before he died. They might be there somewhere, if they happened in similar circumstances to this, but definetly not first. Before he had a chance to retaliate with more than putting his hands on her waist, she had sprung away and was currently rolling down the shallow decline at a remarkable rate. Nate was having trouble proccessing all of this at once, but it was fun to watch. Damn the consequences and the sand, he rolled down until he was right next to her, and he rubbed some of the sand off of her absolutely filthy and absolutely adorable face. You. He said slowly, as if speaking to someone with minimal brain function. Are crazy. But then he smiled and his hand slipped to her neck for a moment before she was up again.
She wobbled, as if she was on drugs, and Nate sat up to watch just exactly what she was doing. His mouth dropped with horror when he realized just what was coming to life underneath her hands. Sand. Not his thing. Sand got in crevices and it never came out. It was like popcorn in your teeth-so frustrating and so fuckin annoying to try to evacuate. But he understood her purpose and so would try to diffuse the bomb that was headed his way. He stood up and took a step back, a wary but playful look on his face. Now, now, Winter. We dont need to play childish games, now do we? He was genuinely afraid. With a strike like a cobra (dont make fun) he grabbed her wrists and locked his arms so that the Thing couldnt come closer to him. His eyes met hers and he shook his head. No, no. Mud pie is not to be eaten. Lets just set it down and admire it from a distance. A grin that threatened laughter broke out on his face as a piece of the Thing fell onto his foot. Gross. He reached over and wiped the top of his foot on her bare leg, streaking the wet sand down her skin, and impish look on his face. He was soooo asking for it.
word count: 784 status: Complete! off to watch Hellboy ooc | It was pretty thriller. My cousin and I mostly hung out, took trail rides. I got to borrow her friend's little gray horse that made me look like a giant, but he was a beast named Cody and we galloped through the mountainside with ease. We went to this thing called the Art Affair-there was all sorts of art and little booths there, but lots of it was jewelry so...not my scene. x] OH. Except at the library they were selling old books and they had this thing for the Art Affair where they had an hour on Sunday afternoon where a box of books was 5 dollars. I got 2 boxes...and then had to fit the books in my suitcase, which was challenging. We had to pack and repack my bag 7 times! Then it got checked at the airport. But it was fun. Whoa long ooc.
